The English Department offers a variety of stimulating programs, and its faculty members provide an encouraging environment for future writers, novelists and poets. Tuesday Voices, an open-microphone poetry forum, sponsored by the English Department and the Gwendolyn Brooks Writers’ Association of Florida Inc., meets on selected Tuesdays, once per month, during the Fall and Spring semesters. All sessions are held on the Sanford/Lake Mary campus. Dates can be found on the Tuesday Voices page.

For students, the English Department sponsors the Veritas Flash Fiction Competition and the Stephen Caldwell Wright Poetry Awards. Winners are awarded cash and scholarship prizes. More information can be found on the Writing Contests page.
